Charity begins at home — easier said than done. I have given half of my residence to the children of PCF, to use free of any cost.
“I have given half of my residence to the children of PCF, to use free of any cost.”
Initially it wasn't easy. Having spent most of my life in very peaceful houses with very limited visitors, this was a moment for me. It takes every ounce of one's privacy, peace and security to turn your residence into a charity home. From fewer than five visitors a day, to nearly a hundred now coming and going as they please.
But one thought, one instance of realisation — that God has given me this marvellous opportunity to be a go between him and his destitute people — takes away all the discomfort. One feels blessed to be able to contribute in this manner at an age where most people retreat into retirement.
Since before my graduation from Fatimah Jinnah Medical College in 1960, I have been closely seeing the miseries of the under privileged class in our country. I have been associated with multiple charitable initiatives, from personally providing medical treatment to patients in rural areas to policy making. And I have realised that no education is good enough if it doesn't help one put food on the table. It is very important for us to shape the future of these children in a manner that they become productive citizens of this great country.
To make a positive change requires years of dedication, commitment, hard work and lots of passion. But let me assure the entire team at PCF, our donors and our members, that we are on the right path of helping destitute people and educating children. Through perseverance and Allah's blessings we will succeed in making Pakistan the greatest country, by securing a hopeful tomorrow for all our children irrespective of class, creed, religion or gender.
May Allah be with us.
